Welcome to my first experience as a conservator! With Covid keeping us away from the classroom so far this year, I haven’t had many opportunities for hands-on conservation work. I have learned just how much paperwork is involved in the conservation process. But this was the first day we were working with chemicals and decomposition of materials. So since we needed to boil an egg, might as well boil the water for a cuppa too.

So we needed to boil the life out of this egg for this scientific experiment to begin. I will admit, it did feel like 7th grade science class again when you learn the difference between a physical reaction and a chemical reaction. The experiment was meant to look at the effects of pollution on objects, through the sulphur coming from the over cooked eggs.
