Now when I first moved here from the oasis of California vegetables, I thought that keeping up with my ‘leniently vegan’ lifestyle would be difficult, but I was pleasantly surprised to find some options in a variety of grocery stores.
Getting used to the grocery stores in a new country is one thing, but when you don’t eat like the ‘masses’ it’s a different story. When you also want to eat more local cuisine, that adds another level. The biggest thing for me was finding a Trader Joe’s equivalent for veggie sausages, and its been some trial and error.

There are some core brands of veggie/vegan options but the high praise goes to Richmond with their vegetarian breakfast sausages. The flavour, lack of palm oil, resistance, and texture is the best I have found. So my 1/8th of a Full English as shown above was very good. I will say that the best of other vegan alternatives come from different brands. If you want to make your Californian Mexican food from home, Quorn minced meat (not to be confused with mince meat of course) is superior. For vegan sausage rolls (yes they exist) I go to Waitrose and they are slightly addicting.
If there are any fans out there- let me know if you want anymore recommendations like this!!
